SOP for Pest Control

OBJECTIVE
To describe the method to eliminate the entry of pests and control glue board traps for rodents in the factory premises.

SCOPE
This SOP is applicable for Pest Control at PharmaInfo Ltd.

RESPONSIBILITY
HR Head.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Head-QA shall be accountable for Compliance of the SOPs.

PROCEDURE

Pest Control
  • The organization will make suitable arrangements for periodic spraying of insecticides/pesticides in institutions by a specially trained person for the purpose in order to have adequate control over pests/rodents, termites, etc., in all the areas of the factory premises.
  • Records of pest control & pest arrangement will be maintained along with details of the nature of the spray system.
  • It will be ensured that the spray is done after working hours and that no open containers or materials are exposed while spraying.
  • Due to the spray of pests, the factory premises will be secured to the devoid of holes in walls and ground made by insects or stray birds.
  • Note: For disinfection, the agreement has been made with the private pest control professional organization authorized by the government. This service covers disinfection of all insects like cockroaches, rodents, white ants, spiders, and silverfish etc.
  • Administration and coordination of this service is done by the Human Resources department. This required document is prepared and carried out by the contractor. After verification, the required documents areby the responsible person of HR department.
  • Regular inspection during the month is carried out by the contractor all around the factory premises and inside the building for termites. After identification, the source of termites is located and patent chemicals are sprayed.
Note: During treatment, precaution is taken to avoid contamination of these chemicals with product & raw materials and packing material.

  • Treatment for controlling the pest shall be done on Saturday in the factory premises.
  • The area for the pest control treatment has after having been identified, is sprayed with a desired pesticide, as follows.
  1. For pesticide Insecticide: K-Othrine/Responsar Beta
  2. For rodents: Glue Trap
A) In a hygienic area like the Office Block, security guard room, Stores and Chemicals production, or canteen, the pesticide used is pyrethrum-based, which does not leave any residual effect.


B) While in other hidden areas, malathion is being used.

  • The whole operation is checked by a company’s responsible person from the HR Department, and the same is documented.
Caution: Utmost care is taken to close all the areas while treatment is given as precautionary measures to avoid contamination of the product & process area.


  • Rodent control glue pad for insect catcher to be taken from the contractor at the time of spray.
  • Treatment for controlling the rodent is given in the specified areas such as the FG Store, Warehouse, Office Block, and canteen.
  • For rodent control Glue pad is used as a rodenticide.
  • For catching rats, the rodenticide baits are placed in the holes and places that are likely to be infested by rodents.
  • The company’s responsible person from the HR Dept. checks the whole operation and the same documentation.
  • After the pest control treatment is given & before restarting the work, the whole area where treatment is given is cleaned up to remove any describes of pests or residue of chemicals used.

Rodent Control
  • The organization will make suitable arrangements for the daily use of glue board traps in the specified factory area by a specially trained and pest management certified person/operator of a contractor for control over the rodents.
  • This treatment is for the management of rodents i.e. rates bandicoots in the specified plant area.
  • Rodent glue boards must be used only in a specified area list given in format F01.
  • Records of rodent’s arrangement will be maintained along with details of glue board traps location wise for rodents system by the operator of contractor.
  • Rodent glue boards must only be used indoors
  • Company Housekeeping employee will check rodent glue boards every day. Glue boards may be monitored by remote means, as long as any trapped and captured animal are physically removed within 8 hours sunrise every day.
  • Used bait material, surplus material, packages, or traps are collected by the contractor technicians in paper bags, and periodical disposal is done at a designated place declared by the local regulating authority away from drinking water sources.
  • Dead rodents are not thrown in the nearby garbage dumps, and disposal is done by burying them in soil at least 1 ft below the ground in a safe way, away from any drinking water source so as to prevent environmental and water pollution.
  • The operator of the contractor must kill trapped animals by giving rat kill poison in food in the presence of HR personnel.
  • Death must be assured/checked before disposal.
  • Note: For disinfection the agreement has been done with the private pests control professional organization authorized by the government. This service covers disinfection of all insects like cockroaches, rodents, white ants, spiders and silver-fish etc. Administration and coordination of this service is done by Human Resource department.
  • After the completion of the job, the activity is documented.
  • Rodent control glue pad for insect catcher to be taken from contractor at the time of routine visit in the company.
  • Insectocutor Log should be fill to record daily observation.
