SOP for Antiscalant Dosing of Purified Water Generation System

OBJECTIVE
To establish a standard operating procedure for Antiscalent Dosing of the Purified Water Generation System.

SCOPE
This SOP applies to the procedures related to Antiscalent Dosing of Purified Water Generation System at Pharmainfo Ltd.

RESPONSIBILITY
Operator, Engineering Department and QA/QC Department personnel shall be responsible to Antiscalent Dosing of Purified Water Generation System.

DEFINITIONS
Antiscalent Dosing of Purified Water Generation System: Antiscalent dosing provision is provided as an additional safety to dose in the filtered water to avoid scale formation on the RO Membranes in case hardness is leaking from the softener unit.

PROCEDURE
  • Prepare RO Antiscalent Dosing of 4 ppm for RO Membrane antiscaling.
  • Clean the dosing tank.
  • Suspended matter should not be present.
  • The suction float of the dosing pump should be properly immersed in the dosing solution.
  • For proper dosage, check no air is locked in the suction & discharge side of the dosing tube.
  • Solution Preparation
  1. Concentration of RO Antiscalent (C) = 60 %
  2. ppm of Antiscalent to be Dosed (D) = 4.0 ppm
  3. No. of Hours of Operation (H) = 8 hrs.
  4. Flow in m3/hr. (F) = 2.0 m3hr
  5. Amount of RO Antiscalent required = (F x H x D) / (10 x C) = (2 x 8 x 4) / (10 x 60) = 0.107 kg.
  • Convert kilograms to liters: kilograms to liters for an ingredient with a density of 0.7g/mL = (0.107 ÷ 0.7) =0.0749 liter = 74.9 milliliter.
  • Add 74.9 milliliter of RO Antiscalent Solution (4% Concentration) in the dosing tank & add 3 0 liters of Purified Water.
  • The flow rate of the dosing pump should be maintained at 30 strokes per minute. (Set the Knob at the 30 marking on the dial behind the dosing pump)
  • After complete Antiscalent Dosing solution preparation, personnel/designee shall record the activity and remarks in the Log Book for Antiscalent Dosing Solution Preparation Record. Refer Annexure No.I
