SOP for Regeneration of Water Softener in Purified Water Generation System

OBJECTIVE

To establish a standard operating procedure for the regeneration of the water softener in the Purified Water Generation System.

SCOPE

This SOP applies to the procedures related to the regeneration of the water softener in the Purified Water Generation System at Pharmainfo Ltd.

RESPONSIBILITY

Operator, Engineering Department, and QA Department personnel shall be responsible for the regeneration of the water softener in the Purified Water Generation System.

DEFINITIONS

Regeneration of Water Softener in Purified Water Generation System: Water softener regeneration is the process through which the water softener flushes out the minerals it catches from the hard water, so it can continue to soften new water as it comes through. When hard water passes through your water softener, ions of calcium and magnesium in the water are replaced with sodium ions. This process takes place in the resin bed. For this system to be effective, your water softener needs to cleanse the resin bed of the harsh minerals when it becomes saturated.

PROCEDURE

• Clean a 200-liter Brine Solution Tank.
• Add 25kg of industrial salt and 100-liter purified water, and shake the brine solution.
• Electric Panel of Purified Water Generation System in HMI PW Pretreatment select a Manual Mode.
• Softener multiport valve handle moves to fast rinse and start the raw water feed pump, and the auto control valve manually.
• Select flow in the rotameter 4000 LPH and 10 minutes fast rinse a softener.
• Stop the raw water feed pump and auto control valve. The softener multiport valve handle moves to regeneration, slow rinse.
• Open the ejector ball valve and the ejector suction pipe, and put them in the brine solution tank.
• Start the raw water pump and the auto control valve, maintain a pressure in show of inlet pressure quartz filter 2.0 kg/cm² to 3.0 kg/cm².
• Regeneration Process is start, with a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes in the regeneration process time.
• After complete a regeneration process, stop the raw water pump and the auto control valve.
• Hold for 1 hour in a softener salt solution.
• After completing 1 hour Softener multiport valve handle moves to fast rinse and start the raw water feed pump and the auto control valve manually.
• 10 minutes fast rinse and stop raw water feed pump and auto control valve manually, Softener multiport valve handle move to service mode and start raw water feed pump and auto control valve manually.
• If the water hardness is less than 5ppm, then the process is correct.
• If the hardness is more than 5 ppm, then backwash for 10 minutes.
• Regeneration again after giving backwash, but if the water hardness does not decrease.
• Then Electric Panel of the Purified Water Generation System in HMI PW Pretreatment select a Auto Mode and start water softener automatically.
• Regeneration of Water Softener in Purified Water Generation System Frequency – Water Hardness is High so regeneration of the softener immediately.
• After completion of the regeneration of the water softener in the Purified Water Generation System, personnel/designee shall record the activity and remarks in the Log Book for the regeneration of the water softener in Purified Water Generation System. Refer Annexure No.I
